UPU World CEO Forum opens in Istanbul

09.05.2018 - Postal chief executives from around the globe attended the opening of the third UPU World CEO Forum in Istanbul, which will see them discuss “Postal digital dividends: A new portfolio, better performance or a redefined mission?”.

During his opening remarks, Universal Postal Union (UPU) Director General Bishar A. Hussein reaffirmed the importance of the Forum to the future of the Post.

“The UPU’s reason for existence is to help define the postal industry and assist it to grow and prosper. There is no better way to do this than to do it together with the main decision makers of the posts, the CEOs,” said Mr. Hussein.

He explained that the timing and location of the event were particularly significant, with the UPU’s Istanbul World Postal strategy having been set in the very same city only two years ago during the 26th Universal Postal Congress and with the Extraordinary Congress in Ethiopia only a few months away.

“We will be keen to capture the direction in which you desire our industry to take for future growth and share these ideas with our ministers in Addis Ababa. This will be an opportunity for the CEOs to directly contribute to the designing of the future strategy for the Post,” said the Director General.

Also present to open the proceedings were Turkish Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Ahmet Arslan and Turkish Post Director General Kenan Bozgeyik.

“I am confident with this meeting the world postal sector will be further improved to serve humanity,” said the Minister.

For his part, Mr. Bozgeyik added that the sector was at an important turning point with regards to digital transformation and that its progression was now in the “capable hands” of postal CEOs

The UPU World CEO Forum is a premier event meant exclusively for the captains of the postal sector. It provides a unique place for them to network, share best practices and strategize on current challenges and opportunities facing the industry.

This year’s Forum will encourage CEOs to strategize on how to harness the opportunities presented by rapid digitization. Participants will reflect on lessons learned during the previous Forum and examine current global and regional trends before focusing on possible product portfolios, customer needs and the Post’s public service role.

The Forum is organized by the UPU and hosted by the Turkish Post between May 9-10.
